The Hertz Corporation is the corporation that Hertz reports to as its parent.

Richard A. Johnson is the chairman, president, and CEO of Foot Locker Retail. He makes $11 million a year in compensation for his roles. When compared to that, the hourly wage of $11.31 that a cashier at a Foot Locker shop receives appears like an extremely little amount.

It’s a pretty big discrepancy in pay, and it’s hard to imagine why the CEO would make so much more than the average employee. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that CVS is a huge company with close to 10,000 locations in the United States? Or maybe it’s because the CEO is responsible for overseeing all of CVS’s brands, including CVS Pharmacy and Aetna?
Burger King
Current CEO: Daniel S. Schwartz
Est. CEO Salary: $20 million per annum*
Est. Employee Salary: $9 per hour*
After McDonald’s, the world’s biggest chain of hamburger quick-service restaurants, Burger King is the second-largest of its kind. In fact, $6 million only ranks as the 287th highest salary amongst CEOs of America’s top companies.
With that kind of money, John C. Miller can afford a nice house and a few cars, but he probably won’t be able to retire anytime soon. For comparison, the CEO of Walmart, Doug McMillon, made over $23 million in 2017.
Airbnb
Current CEO: Brian Chesky
Est. CEO Salary: $120 million per annum*
Est. Employee Salary: $20 per hour*
While Airbnb’s CEO, Brian Chesky, has an estimated salary of $120 million, customer service representatives at the company get paid just $20 per hour. This disparity is not unique to Airbnb; CEO salaries at top companies can be incredibly high while employees are often paid comparatively low wages.

American Airlines
Current CEO: Robert Isom
Est. CEO Salary: $10.6 million per annum*
Est. Employee Salary: $27,00 per annum*
The disparity between CEO and employee salaries at American Airlines is quite large. While the CEO makes an estimated $10.6 million per year, a flight attendant only makes an average of $27,000 per year. This is a large difference, and it’s likely that many employees feel that they are not being fairly compensated.
However, American Airlines is a large company with over 130,000 employees, so it’s likely that not everyone agrees with this sentiment. Overall, it’s clear that there is a lot of variation in salaries at American Airlines, and it will be interesting to see if this changes in the future.

Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor has a salary of $4.5 million. That’s 900 times the median salary of a Wendy’s employee, which is $5,000. At Wendy’s, the CEO makes 900 times the median salary of an employee. That gap is pretty big, but it’s actually smaller than the average CEO-to-employee pay ratio across all industries in America.
iHop
Current CEO: John Peyton
Est. CEO Salary: $10.8 million per annum*
Est. Employee Salary: $11.83 per hour*
iHop, America’s largest pancake chain, is known for its affordable breakfast menu and family-friendly atmosphere. In fact, according to a new report from Glassdoor, the CEO-to-median-employee pay ratio at iHop is an astonishing 539 to 1.
Because we wanted to make marketing simpler, we simplified the name to its abbreviation, iHoP. The chief executive officer of iHOPS is named John Peyton, who reportedly earns an annual compensation of $10.8 million. Despite the fact that this is not the biggest remuneration available to CEOs of major corporations, it is still quite outstanding.

Est. CEO Salary: $$8.5 million per annum*
Est. Employee Salary: $16.07 per hour*
Costco is one of America’s top companies, and it’s also one of the most generous when it comes to CEO vs. employee salaries. Costco’s CEO, Craig Jelinek, earned a total salary of $4.4 million in 2018. That might sound like a lot, but it’s actually just 0.01% of Costco’s total revenue for the year.
In contrast, the average American CEO earned 271 times more than the median worker at their company. Jelinek’s salary is just a fraction of what many CEOs earn, yet Costco still managed to bring in $127 billion in revenue last year.

While Mackey’s compensation package is certainly high, it’s important to remember that he is the CEO of a publicly traded company with over 87,000 employees.
